Should Google's new "Caffeine" technology be keeping YOU up at night?
Hey Stompers,
As you may have heard, Google recently announced testing of a new, more powerful version of their search engine technology.
It's code-named "Caffeine" and you can read about from Google's own Dev Blog here.
Now, as business people who rely on SEO, any time Google gives us some insights into what they have planned for the future, we need to pay attention.
So what can we learn from what Google is telling us about the future of search? Here's a quote I think is particularly telling:
"It's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions."
I think that one sentence tells us all we need to know about where we need to be moving, and here's how:
1. Size and Indexing Speed: This tells us that Google is going to be crawling more pages and indexing them FASTER. This continues Google's focus on fresh content – so many new pages are created every day, they can't keep up.
2. Accuracy: This indicates that the sites that will continue to "win" the search game are going to be the ones that can correctly match up the searcher's keywords with the content they were actually looking for. Google indicates that they're interested not only in what sites people click on, but what the searcher's behavior is once they arrive.
With that in mind, success will come from testing and adjusting your pages to better serve your visitors. It will no longer be enough to focus on the keywords alone, but on actually making your content relevant to what those searchers want.
One way to do this is through careful organization of your site structure, organizing information in ways that people will find useful, not just search spiders.
3. Comprehensiveness: To me, this indicates that Google will continue to heap love upon "authority" sites – ones that do a really good job of completely covering their selected niche.
In Google's never-ending quest for relevance, Google wants to see sites that can indicate a thorough and comprehensive resource for what people are searching for. This is why it's important to continue to build pages that rank for ALL your relevant keywords.
It's not just about the individual SERPS, but the "profile" that a comprehensive site creates. I can imagine that this focus could be partly to combat "SERP Spamming" tactics where results are flooded with multiple, largely identical copies of the same information spread across multiple Web 2.0 sites.
More and more, it's going to be important to create sites with larger and larger collections of content in order to really dominate the listings.
Once again, Google shows that they prefer larger, older sites that are packed with useful information.
So even though there's been a lot of buzz around this announcement and lots of speculation, I don't think you need to change too much if you're already doing your SEO the StomperNet way. What's working in Google now for us appears to be exactly what they want to encourage. In fact, they want MORE of it, FASTER.
So get started today, so by the time Caffeine comes out of BETA, you'll be so far ahead of your competition they may never be able to catch up.
Here's Hoping, and Keep Stomping!

Today, I have something else for you instead: another free SEO video – this time from Dan "Keyword Master" Thies.
Don't those SEO "wizards" seem to have a crystal ball peering into Google's inner workings? How do they know when Google starts dancing before anyone else can even hear the music yet?
Well Dan's going to tell you how you can get on Google's not-so-secret "Insider's List" so you get an email whenever they change the algorithm. It's really that simple. (Yes, really.)
"After more than 6 years… I have not met a site where I could not create ranking improvements from internal linking changes alone".
– Leslie Rohde, GoingNaturalSix Video #2 – "Referential Integrity Rocks!"
I've got a New SEO Video for you today – it's from Leslie Rohde. If you don't know who Leslie is, you can read more below the video, but I suggest you just get started watching now. It should play automatically.

Sometimes a loss leader can be risky - but is it worth it?
A Loss Leader is one of the more powerful brand building strategies that any business can employ.
And statistics, for what they're worth, usually bear out that you'll always earn more money per customer AND create a larger customer base if you're prepared to sell a product for no profit, or even a LOSS in order to create a relationship with a customer.
But it's Risky.
It's Risky for a few reasons:
1 – To sell at no profit or a loss means that you're sometimes selling low-value stuff.
Right? You've seen the Big Box Retailers offer crazy deals on low-end electronics in order to get people in the door. The problem is, the offer is usually "LOW END". And the customer experience that follows doesn't, shall we say, build the most loyalty.
2 – Also, it means that you MUST have a system to follow up with those new customers – meaning, you need to be ready to walk them up the "Ladder of Intimacy" to create future sales.
"Ladder of Intimacy?" Picture one of those A-Frame Ladders. You're on one side and your customer is on the other.
At first, you're far apart and low on the ladder – meaning, you've offered SOME value, and you've only asked for a LITTLE bit of a financial commitment for it.
The trick is getting them to climb that ladder. Each rung is a more expensive offer, but it also brings YOU closer to that customer because you're providing MORE value as you climb together.
Sexy, eh?
The problem there is, the first thing you're offering (because you need to keep it inexpensive for cash-flow reasons) is also probably of lower value to the customer.
There's the rub.
What if you could invert the ladder? What if you could deliver AMAZING value for a low price, and begin your relationship with your customer in a place where they are already confident that doing business with you will result in great things for them?
So, if you've ever asked why StomperNet makes free videos to promote its new products, the answer comes from customer comments like this:
"If this is what you are GIVING away, I can't imagine how good the stuff is that I get when I buy".
WIN. Profound WIN.
And it works, every time.
This Video is a text book example of how to structure an Inverted Ladder.
In one of my last newsletters, I de-constructed and reverse engineered Frank Kern's Mass Control Video – it was very well received for one very important reason:
"SHOWING" details, not "Telling" Details.
It's one thing to TELL YOU how to do something, it's another thing to SHOW YOU what it looks like, then talk about it why it works after.
This is the definition of Kinesthetic Learning. See it, Understand it, Do it. And it's why Medical Schools employ that kind of education – because it's CRITICAL when you're saving lives.
So, check out the video, and come back here to StomperBlog.com and tell me what kind of VALUE Propositions most appealed to you.
Thanks!
Andy Jenkins
P.S. Here's the Video Link again.
P.P.S. Next week, it's all about SEO here at StomperNet….
Advanced SEO, that is.
Stay tuned for a Video from SEO Expert Leslie Rohde. He's gonna tell you why LSI is lame.
Yes. Lame.
(I love causing trouble).
As you may know, we're LIVE in Atlanta with StomperNet's 7th Face-to-Face event, and we wanted to update you folks who couldn't be with us with a few photographs we've snapped here at the event so far!

There's never an "Off" moment at LIVE Events.
The real benefit of our LIVE events is what you see right here. Getting to sit down with us and talk about YOUR business and interact with the Faculty, Staff, AND your fellow Stompers. None of us is as smart as all of us, and that's never more clear than when we get together.

Paul Lemberg delivers shockingly simple product creation methods.
We kicked off the event with a FULL Friday of FormulaFIVE business growth. The day was dominated by super-consultant Paul Lemberg, creator of F5. In addition to going deep into the time management power of FormulaFIVE's "Turbo Thruster" we also got to see Paul's secrets for nearly INSTANT and INFINITE product creation. If you have more products to sell, you make more money. Makes sense, right?

StomperNet Faculty Andy Edmonds shows off his iBlipper iPhone to enthralled Stompers
Andy Edmonds sometimes talks over people's heads, but that's just because he's so dang smart! In additon to sharing his formidable SEO and usability skills with Stompers, he's also been showing off his new iPhone app "iBlipper" – (available soon!)

Faculty Dan Thies shares some candid advice in between sessions
Here's another example of how a Stomper event breaks down the "wall" you might see at some other events – here's Dan Thies, right off the LIVE stage, interacting directly with members. You can come to our events and ask us ANYTHING about your business. And if you're not comfortable asking in a crowded hotel lobby, you should check out the Confidential Roundtable discussions. I'd tell you what was discussed (but you might never see me again!)

Faculty Don Crowther does Q&A in front of a slide from his presentation
Here, Don Crowther brings his social marketing expertise to the table and lays it out for our FormulaFIVE Day attendees – and not only did he deliver BRAND NEW content for our members, but he hung around afterwards to make sure everyone had every question answered. It's not just about listening – everyone is here to LEARN and we make sure that happens.

Andy, Janeen, and Stomper Coaches mix it up after a long day
Towards the end of a long and information-packed day, we like to unwind and network, and that's exactly what we do. Here, you can see members and staff after hours. Is Andy threatening this guy for wearing the same shirt to the party? Probably not. After such a long day, we'll let the fashion faux-pas slide.

Faculty Sherman Hu consults with a Stomper who KNOWS how to get attention
Okay… maybe not! Just when we thought we were done discussing fashion, this guy walks in. No, not Faculty Sherman Hu. The other guy – with the hat! As a special bonus for demonstrating his understanding of "attention marketing", Andy gave this guy an hour of free consulting with the Stomper Faculty member of his choice. It PAYS to come to LIVE events, in many more ways than the obvious one.
And that was our Friday. Saturday would prove to be even MORE busy and literally busting at the seams for some sessions. In fact, it was SO hectic, that I'm only just now getting to tell you about Friday, but we promise, check this space again very soon for another update from the floor of LIVE 7, including details and tidbits from our presenters, and of course, more photos!
If you want more up-to-the-minute updates, lots of buzz (and tweeting) over on Twitter! (Speaking of Twitter, the next post will have some good stuff from Perry Belcher's presentation, so don't miss it!)
Also, don't forget to leave us a comment if you like the pictures.
Talk again very soon!
Two things, if you please:
1) Mass Control Bye Bye
2) Search Engines are Good, but Goofy.
Mass Control 2.0 "Bye Bye"
This launch was so good, I've simply GOT to reverse engineer it (like I did with Frank's 2nd video) and create some checklists for people to evaluate their own marketing processes because…
Frank set a new standard, and I think and it needs to be memorialized…
..and then copied.
Mr. Kern, if you're reading – congrats pal, I learned a LOT and the system is ninja.
My "Gonzo" bonuses for MC 2.0 are here, and the last handful of Mass Control 2.0 systems are available here.
I wonder what the High School Guidance Counselor that said "Frank, think hard about a public sanitation career" is thinking now.
For that matter, what would your High School Guidance Counselor say to you – if they met you today?
Heh.
Search Engines are Good, but Goofy.
Have you ever been DREADING being on receiving end of a phone call or email or letter?
And then… you get it, and it turns out to be… Okay.
And every once in a while, the news you get it is of the "BOOYA!" variety.
That's what's about to happen to you.
The State of the Search Engines
I've gathered up Leslie Rohde, Dan Thies, and Jerry West to create a
"State of the Search Engines" series of audio podcasts.
So, shut off CNN, or FOX News, or whoever is filling your day with fear and poison, because:
We've got "BOOYA!" news about Search Engine Optimization.
BTW, these podcasts will be free.
We're just finishing up the last of the topics that we'll cover – but before we go into audio production, I wanted to ask you if you had any questions of your own, or suggestions for hot SEO topics.
If you do, just help yourself to the comment box at the bottom of this very page.
I'll post the release dates shortly.
Andy
P.S. Never one to mince words… I laughed pretty hard when I got this email:
"Dear Recession,
Suck it.
Sincerely,
Frank Kern – Mass Control 2.0"
P.P.S. This is why I don't listen to the news anymore:
"Wall Street indices predicted nine out of the last five recessions!"
(BTW, the dude that said that won a Nobel Prize)
So far, I've told you about the two new StomperNet products
that are being released next Wednesday: "Stomping the Search
Engines 2" and "The Net Effect" – clicking on those links will
let you read more about both on the StomperBlog if you missed
those emails.
So by now, you know that STSE2, our updated, expertly taught
SEO course – and "The Net Effect," our monthly printed action
journal – are going to be sold TOGETHER in an offer we think
will be impossible for ANYONE to turn down. That's because
EVERYONE will be able to afford to try it.
So today I want to talk to you about WHY we're putting these
two products together, WHY there's never been a better time
than RIGHT NOW to start an online business, and WHY we're going
to break our streak of expensive premium products in order to
get this into the hands of everyone who wants it.
"Liberty and Justice for ALL"
I'm going to use a "lazy" trick here and actually quote some
definitions to you – I know – everyone's used this at some time
or other to pad out an essay in high school, right? But stay
with me here.
"Liberty" can be defined as "Personal freedom from servitude or
confinement or oppression" – and I think that's what all of us,
as entrepreneurs, are after.
It's not so much about HAVING more money as wanting that
freedom that comes with it.
Freedom from the servitude of a J.O.B. working to make someone
else rich – to know that every ounce of work you do is creating
wealth for YOU and your family.Freedom from confinement to a place or situation, so we can
just uproot, travel and even settle into the place of our
dreams – to not be stuck, wishing we were someone else.Freedom from the oppression of financial obligations and debt -
to not have to worry how (or even IF) the bills are going to
get paid this month.
Sure, StomperNet teaches people how to build and run successful
online businesses, but that's a means to an end – the end
result we all want is LIBERTY.
Now with that in mind, there's a very strong reason that the
CORNERSTONE of EVERYTHING we teach in StomperNet is SEO. The
Search Engines are the KEY. Here's why:
"Justice" can be defined as "fair, equal – the quality of being
free from favoritism or self-interest or bias or deception" -
do you get it now?
The Search Engines themselves are the Great Equalizer when it
comes to online business. Sure they have their own set of
secret rules, but THEY HAVE RULES. And those rules are EQUALLY
applied to all websites. The Search Engines are FAIR and
IMPARTIAL because they treat everyone EQUALLY.
Every one of us has the opportunity to rank well in the search
engines if we follow their "laws" – it's marketing 101.
The Search Engines are a "customer" that wants specific things
from a website. If you find out what they want and give it to
them, they "pay" you with high rankings.
Does that make sense?
So there's Liberty – which we all want in our personal lives -
and as entrepreneurs, we aim to achieve that freedom through
building a successful business. And then there's Justice – the Search Engines allow us small
time entrepreneurs a way to aim high and compete FAIRLY, even
with huge mega-corporations… as long as we follow the rules.
And up to now, the Search Engines themselves haven't done a
really good job of creating their own "user manual" right?
That's why SEO is something that's typically expensive to
outsource, and expensive to learn. It's POWERFUL knowledge,
and it's SECRET knowledge – therefore, it usually costs a
premium.
And that got me thinking.
We all want a liberating and successful business, and we're all
going to use the Search Engines to do it – that's why we're
together, talking now – that one common goal…
It just didn't seem right to put up a huge barrier to entry on
this one.
I mean, I can't sit here and talk to you about the "Liberty" of
your own successful business and the "Justice" of the Search
Engines and then turn around and charge an arm and a leg to let
you in. That's what we're trying to escape in the first place.
It's not "Liberty and Justice for people who can drop $1000
bucks on this course" – it's Liberty and Justice for ALL!
ALL means EVERYONE – EVERYONE who wants this "Stomping the
Search Engines 2″ Search Engine User Manual should be able to
have it. This stuff SHOULDN'T be as secretive as it is.
But at the same time, StomperNet is a business, and we have
costs – we put a HUGE amount of money and resources into
developing this course, and we need to recoup that, and I have
a responsibility to my employees to make a profit, so how do I
make this happen?
Well, we also happen to have been working on a print
publication that eventually became "The Net Effect". Now, I
don't know what you know about the publishing business, but it
can be sink or swim. It's not "easy" like digital info-
products.
So, I have one product, my SEO course, that I'd love to be able
to charge as little possible for……And a monthly journal that I need to get as many subscribers
as possible for…
And that's WHY we decided to combine these two products
together into a SINGLE offer – because it will allow us to give
you a maximum value (STSE2), for the lowest possible price
("The Net Effect").
But unfortunately, I can't tell you the exact price yet. Not
until next week. I know, it sucks. All I can say is that
we'll have them both, together at one incredibly LOW price.
So for those of you that said it would be too expensive, and
that you couldn't afford it even though you wanted it – or
those of you that were already ready to buy - just wait over
the weekend.
Think about the fairest price you can think of that would be
able to pull this off. Heck, not even the FAIREST price.
Think of the LOWEST possible price that we could get away
with…
When I talk to you again next week, I'll bet you I beat it.
Talk again soon,
~Andy Jenkins
P.S. If you want to comment, ask a question, post your guesses,
whatever you like – tell us what's on your mind below.
Thanks once again to everyone for their tremendous feedback on
the StomperBlog – if you missed yesterday's post detailing the
COMPLETE contents of "Stomping the Search Engines 2″ you can
find it one post back.
Now, onto today's business.
I want to tell you about something we've been working on for
awhile here at Stomper World Headquarters. It's a physical,
monthly, printed journal that we've begun publishing and will
make available to the public starting next Wednesday.
As I said, we sent out tons of press copies, and I'm holding
the first proof of the public version in my hands RIGHT THIS
SECOND.
It's beefy, 45 pages, full color, and I can count the number of
ads on one hand – meaning this thing is almost 100% content.
I'm going to tell you exactly what's in store for you in the
first issue of "The Net Effect" – but first, I think it would
be a big help to tell you WHY we think the world needs
something like this.
When people join StomperNet, we try to get an idea of where
they are in their business, what they've done, and what they
feel has been holding them back.
The #1 roadblock is always what Brad Fallon calls "Paralysis by
Analysis" – too much research and reading and learning; not
enough actual DOING STUFF to make you money.
We think part of that reason is because the very tool we use to
conduct our businesses is probably the most distracting thing
on the planet: the internet.
So in order to get you away from that great big distraction
machine, but still TEACH you the stuff that WE know YOU NEED to
know.
That's why we've got it boiled down, distilled, and printed up
in a monthly action plan that you can absorb AWAY from your
computer, so when you sit down at the keyboard, learning time
is OVER and it's time to take ACTION!
The whole idea of "The Net Effect" is about ACTION – that's why
every single issue will have a summary page – an ACTION check
list that you can tear out and hang near your desk. Just go
through each item step by step each month and scratch it off.
I don't think we can make it any easier (and we had a lot of
really smart dudes spend a LOT of time trying to).
But I said NO HYPE for this one, so I'm going to stick to the
facts. Here's the Table of Contents for Issue 1 of "The Net
Effect":
"How to Interview an Outsourced SEO"
by Jerry West"The Keyword Heist Technique"
by Dan Thies"26 Things To Test"
by David Bullock"Ranking on Page One"
by Leslie Rohde"Shotgun! Enjoy Galactic-Size Content Distribution Without Ever
Leaving Your Home"
by Sherman Hu"Twittering Your Way to Free Traffic"
by Paul Colligan"The Ultimate Video Article Marketing"

by Audrey Kerwood"The Social Media Survival Guide: A Twitter Case Study"
by Dave Taylor"Speed Matters"
by Brad Fallon"Armor Piercing Emails: Deliverability De-Mystified"
by Tom Ham and Colin Theriot
No matter what aspect of your business you're currently focused
on, there's nothing in that list of articles that won't start
making you MORE money TODAY.
You notice something else? EVERY single one of those articles
is written by StomperNet faculty… Okay, the last one isn't,
but that one's written by our chief copywriter and our VP of
Partner Enrichment – you're reading this email now, so they
know what they're doing.
So this is the same extreme quality of content that goes into
our $800 a month StomperNet membership program, and the content
is coming from the same world-class experts we trust to teach
our elite members.
That content is cropped, chopped, and distilled down into
simple, ACTIONABLE steps – and we're going to ship it out every
single month.
It's really "Concentrated StomperNet!"
Take it with you on the go, or just keep it nearby your desk so
you can train yourself to WORK when you're on the computer, and
overcome the paralyzing effect of "too much information".
BUT REMEMBER, we're ironing out the details on our offer -
you're going to be able to get "Stomping the Search Engines 2″
and "The Net Effect" TOGETHER for an unbeatable offer.
More on that tomorrow.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for reviews cropping up on the
web – they're coming fast and furious today.
Talk again tomorrow,
~Andy Jenkins
P.S. We don't open the cart on this until next Wednesday, but
if you want to check out the classy countdown page we have set
up and get it bookmarked ahead of time, you can find that
here. We've got a description of "Stomping the Search Engines
2″ up there now for your reference, too.
First, thanks to everyone who followed up on yesterday's post
by leaving a comment or question here on the StomperBlog. (You can
catch it one post back if you missed it.)
Today I want to tell you about "Stomping the Search Engines 2″
and what you can expect from it.
Like I mentioned yesterday, we've got hundreds of review copies
in the hands of IM experts all over the world, so we'll leave
the OPINIONS to them. I'm going to stick to the impartial
facts.
No hype. Total transparency. That's a nice change, isn't it?
So, back in 2004, the original "Stomping the Search Engines"
was a CD audio course that Brad and I recorded in my basement
studio in New Jersey. We covered the SEO strategies that Brad
and I were using then to get our physical product e-commerce
sites indexed and ranked over and above any competitor out
there.
Now, I'm not getting nostalgic here – I'm telling you that so I
can point out how "Stomping the Search Engines 2″ fundamentally
improves on what came before.
So what is STSE2?
First, it's not audio this time, but DVD-ROM video. This is
the same high-quality video we've been using to create courses
for our $800 a month StomperNet members and it allows us to
better illustrate everything we have to teach you.
Second, yeah – Brad and I are on this one too, to re-establish
AND update all the SEO tactics from the first version of STSE.
Here's the kicker – that's only Module 1 of SEVEN total.
Joining us and augmenting our SEO knowledge and expertise are
several members of our StomperNet all-star faculty. We hired
these guys to teach US inside StomperNet, and now we're giving
non-Stompers a chance to benefit from this collective pool of
GENIUS! (Okay, okay… I said NO hype.)
Joining us are:
Andy Edmonds - Former lead of analytics for Microsoft's Live
Search team, and head of StomperLabs (which has created Stomper
Scrutinizer, Site Seer, Super Bookmarker, Linker, and more)Dan Thies – Architect of this entire course and is considered
by many to be the world's leading expert in keyword research
and analysis – he's also the author of the highly successful
SEO Fast StartLeslie Rohde - A militant advocate of proper site structure,
Leslie was the first person to reverse engineer link quality,
and is the creator of Opti-Link, the first professional SEO
software ever.Jerry West – SEO Guru in his own right, and one of the most
comprehensive marketing testers on the planet – Jerry's tactics
allow him to make millions in the cut-throat affiliate game
(and do it under the radar)
These are all REAL guys with REAL chops. Google their names,
and you'll know that we didn't invent these "characters".

Okay, now like I said, I'm trying to keep this sales-pitch
free. (I'll save that for the sales letter next Wednesday.)
However, I want to point out that even though you may THINK you
know all there is to know about the topics above, consider the
source you got your info from.
Was it a $7 ebook? Or a free forum? Maybe just word of mouth.
Well, OUR info comes from a panel of world renowned experts and
is supported by research and implementation across 1000s of
StomperNet member sites.
Does our stuff work? Well, we're closing in on our 2 year
anniversary and clients still pay us $800 a month to be part of
our network. I like to think that's a good indicator, but you
should decide for yourself.
Now on the StomperBlog, we had a few questions and comments
about the pricing. I mentioned yesterday that STSE2 was
developed to be a $497 retail product. Some people thought
that was a GREAT price. Some people expressed that they STILL
wouldn't be able to afford it.
Before you exclude yourself out on pricing, just stick with
us. I will stick by my promise to make this a "Can't Say No"
offer that will be affordable for EVERYONE. And I mean
EVERYONE.
Part of that deal has to do with our brand-spanking-new monthly
print Journal called "The Net Effect", which we unveiled to our
members just this past weekend at StomperNet LIVE 6. All our
reviewers got a copy as well, so expect to hear about it.
This post is already getting long, but tomorrow, I want to
tell you all about "The Net Effect" – WHAT it is, WHY we made
it, and HOW it's going to help your business.
But don't worry – I'll still do it Dragnet style – "just the
facts".
As always, if you have any questions or comments about
"Stomping the Search Engines 2″ put 'em up in a comment below
and we'll answer them in the next installment.
Thanks for reading, and we hope you're as excited to see the
reviews on this thing as we are.
Talk again tomorrow.
~Andy Jenkins
